An endorsement is a form that changes the policy. Some are common, and each has its own limits.

Summary

  1. Endorsements can add or limit coverage, so each one needs a read.
  2. Common ones include roadside help, rental reimbursement and gap coverage.
  3. Ask for the exact wording, not just the name.

Section 1.0

Roadside assistance

Often includes towing, jump starts and lockout help. Look at the distance limit and how many calls per year.

Section 2.0

Rental reimbursement

Helps pay for a rental car after a covered claim. Check the daily amount and the maximum number of days.

Section 3.0

Gap coverage

Meant for when the car is worth less than what is owed on a loan or lease after a total loss. Ask whether it is offered and who sells it.

Section 4.0

Read the form number

Each endorsement has a form number on the declarations page. That is how you ask your insurer for the full text.
